The well-respected seafood restaurant, Red House Seafood Restaurant, was established in 1976. Red House Seafood is one of Singapore’s most established and oldest seafood restaurants and is still often brought up when conversation circles around Singapore cuisine. Generations after generations, Red House Seafood restaurant has grown and adapted to the times. Most of the Chinese dishes that we see today are usually from Canton, Fujian, and Hainan origins, creating most of the basic flavours of local cuisine. Representing the diverse culture that Singapore has, Red House Seafood has taken a step further and the chefs have constantly improved and integrated the essence of Malay, Indian, and even Perarakan flavours into all their dishes. With such a well-established reputation of pairing seafood with authentic Asian flavours, Red House Seafood has grown from becoming an underdog to an award-winning restaurant.

Service
When it comes to customer service, Red House Seafood never fails to disappoint. Last week, I had trouble ordering one of their signature dishes, Red House Chilli Crab. Due to the differences in our language barriers, (and partially due to my poor Mandarin language), I wasn’t able to communicate with one of the assigned waiters there and that resulted in me getting their “Kuei Fei” Crab in Clay Pot instead. Thankfully, the manager stepped up to clarify the misunderstanding and even went out of his way to help me get my initial order. In addition to that, he even offered us a complimentary dessert. The customer service is a great part of why Red House flourishes. They also ensure that all your food is delivered within 15 mins of your order to provide you with the freshest and most delectable food.
Food
You can expect to be spoilt for choices when you dine at Red House Seafood, and you choose from up to 1117 different types of Asian cuisines and desserts. All of Red House Seafood chefs are all trained to specialise in Asian cuisine, so you definitely will only get to experience the best when it boils down to Asian cuisine. In addition to their mouth-watering seafood, we were all surprised to see how fresh their seafood was. As we ordered their signature Red House Chilli Crab, we didn’t expect to taste such an unbelievable mixture of flavours. The flavours were so compact and tasteful, the crabs tasted fresh and sweet. During our visit to the restaurant, we decided to go with Soft Shell Crab with Salted Egg for an appetizer, Seafood Fritters for chef handmade specialties, Pumpkin Seafood Soup, and their Red House Chilli Crab.
Red House Chilli Crab
This chef’s specialty dish, Chilli Crab, is being recommended by countless people around me and was even featured in articles. As it should, because the crab was soft and succulent, meat was sweet and fresh. This crab is being served with their signature Red House chilli sauce. This a must-get whenever you’re at Red House Seafood. Not forgetting their mantou buns that go perfectly with the house made sauce.
Soft Shell Crab with Salted Egg
This savory dish is sure to warm up your palette, the soft shell crab at Red House Restaurant is a must-try as recommended on the menu. The soft shell crab is first being marinated before being deep-fried. Coated in a salted egg sauce, soft shelled crab halves are deep-fried to a light crisp. It can be an addictive combination of the gentle crunch and the umami taste.
Wok-Fried and Tossed Black Pepper Crab
This dish is also another of the chef’s recommendations. The crab is first being wok-fried with spices such as garlic, ginger, and black pepper. The result is this surprisingly aromatic black pepper crab which will never fail to disappoint.
Seafood Fritters
Just imagine a mountain of fluffy, fried pillows, golden brown, and jammed with all your favourite seafood. Chopped shrimp, scallops or clams, sometimes even a combination of all these three. At Red House Seafood all this fried goodness will be within your reach. All of their seafood fritters are being deep-fried to perfection and served to you while it is still piping hot. Unlike traditional fried food, their seafood fritters only use a healthier oil alternative to ensure that you can enjoy your food guilt-free.
Pumpkin Seafood Soup
We get it, not everybody is a fan of pumpkin. But the pumpkin seafood soup at Red House Seafood is a must to try, even if you’re not a fan. The sweetness of the pumpkin and the salty yet savoury taste of the seafood is just simply a match made in heaven. The pumpkin is soft yet not mushy, when it first enters your mouth it just completely melts. This pumpkin seafood soup is a must for all those pumpkin lovers and also a must-try for all those who are not (trust me).
Crispy Cereal Prawn
Let’s admit it, you can’t skimp on cereal prawns when you’re at a seafood restaurant. It’s not the healthiest but everyone has their guilty pleasure and this happens to be mine. Needless to say, I was not disappointed as Red House Seafood cereal prawn is definitely exceptional as they only use fresh prawn taken from their tanks upon order. What’s even better for cereal prawn lovers, is that Red House Seafood Isn’t stingy about their cereal. That just means more cereal for all of us, so no one’s complaining.
Crispy Duck Sze Chuan Style
Calling all of you duck lovers out there. This duck is just simply heavenly, the skin of this duck is ridiculously crispy and flavourful. The duck is also well seasoned to ensure that all its flavours are compact into the meat.
Red House Seafood is a must-go for all seafood lovers and their food is not only decadent, but the service is also exceptional. If you know someone who enjoys their seafood, definitely head down to their outlet at Prinsep for their great array of seafood dishes.
